ABC’s ‘Apartment 23′ restores original bitchy title

Oct 11 • by Ann • Comments OffApartment 23, News

The ‘Bitch’ is back.

After ABC changed a new show’s mildly profane title during development, upcoming comedy Apartment 23 has now more-or-less reverted to its original head-turning name.

The official new title of the show is Don’t Trust The B—- in Apartment 23, dashing out the letters of the curse in an attempt to soften its impact (not entirely unlike how CBS solved buying short-lived Shit My Dad Says last season, substituting the non-word “$#*!”). The Disney-owned network has two upcoming shows that previously used the word “bitch” in their title — Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 and drama Good Christian Bitches. The former was shorted to Apartment 23 right before the network’s broadcast upfront presentation in May. The latter was change to Good Christian Belles, and was then changed again to GCB. (Good Christian Bitches, in particular, was singled out by some culture critics who were ready to pounce on the show should it hit the air with its original title).

In the case of Apartment 23, the new title was rather anonymous; it didn’t tell you anything about the show. The new version more clearly suggests the show’s premise — about a naive midwesterner (Dreama Walker) who moves in with a hardcore party girl (Krysten Ritter). And given that CBS’ 2 Broke Girls and Fox’s New Girl have successfully launched girl-with-new-roommate(s)-in-the-big-city premises this fall, the cleverly written Apartment 23 might likewise pop for viewers. The show does not yet have a premiere date, but is expected to debut sometime this season.

We finally have some news regarding Dreama’s project The Pill!

The official website for the movie has launched here. You can find a press kit, a poster and several production stills as well as behind the scenes pictures on the website. The stills don’t feature Dreama but I have found a picture of her from the movie in the press kit. That and the poster have been added to the gallery.

You can watch a clip of the movie here. Unfortunately it doesn’t feature Dreama.

Feature film THE PILL will have its bicoastal world premieres at indie film fests DANCES WITH FILMS in Los Angeles on Tuesday June 7th, and the GEN ART FILM FESTIVAL in NYC on Sunday June 12th.

Written and Directed by J.C. Khoury, an award-winning commercial director whose work is in the permanent collection at the MoMA, THE PILL stars Noah Bean (“Damages,” “Morning Glory”), Rachel Boston (“500 Days of Summer”), Anna Chlumsky (“My Girl,” “In the Loop”), Al Thompson (“The Royal Tenenbaums”), and Dreama Walker (“Gossip Girl”).

SYNOPSIS: It happens. You meet someone at the bar, one thing leads to another, and the next thing you know you’re waking up wondering (and potentially regretting) exactly what took place the night before. Such is the case for Fred, who starts to panic when his free-spirited one night stand, Mindy, informs him that she’s not on birth control; but for some reason isn’t too concerned. Determined not to become a father, Fred spends the day with Mindy under the guise of pursuing a serious relationship to make sure she takes both doses (taken 12 hours apart) of the morning-after pill.

The result is an all-day adventure filled with socially awkward situations and untimely roadblocks as Fred struggles to preserve his New York City world. With a resolution finally in sight, the no-boundaries Mindy starts to grow on the overly anxious Fred, forcing him to make a decision that will change the rest of his life.

A portrait of young singles in New York City, The Pill examines the immediate ramifications of casual dating in a poignantly funny, fresh, and honest fashion.

Hopefully Dreama will attend one of the premieres or maybe even both! You can buy tickets for the premieres here and here.

Apartment 23 Press Release

Apartment 23
(Midseason 2012)
After a naïve Midwestern girl’s big city dreams are dashed her first week in New York, she finds herself living with her worst nightmare in this hilarious, contemporary comedy about a female odd couple who are surrounded by an outrageous cast of characters.
June (Dreama Walker) moves to Manhattan for a dream job and the perfect company apartment, only to have them disappear in a puff of reality, thanks to a CEO from the Bernie Madoff school of embezzlement. Deep in debt and out on the streets, June scrambles to land a job and place to live. It seems her luck has turned around when she gets hired at a coffee shop and finds Chloe (Krysten Ritter), a charming, vivacious roommate… with the morals of a pirate. She swindles June out of all her savings, but she and her snarky friend, James Van Der Beek (playing himself), soon learn that, just because June’s naïve, she isn’t stupid. June ingeniously turns the tables on Chloe, who is so shocked about being scammed herself that she decides to pull June into her colorful band of friends. Sure, it’s all dysfunctional, bizarre and overwhelming, but so is New York City. And with the help of Chloe and the other oddballs around her, June might just learn the survival secrets she needs to make it there.
“Apartment 23″ stars Krysten Ritter (“Breaking Bad,” “Gilmore Girls”) as Chloe, Dreama Walker (“The Good Wife,” “Gossip Girl”) as June, Eric André as Mark, Michael Blaiklock as Eli and James Van Der Beek (“Varsity Blues,” “Dawson’s Creek”) as James Van Der Beek.
Created and written by Nahnatchka Kahn (“American Dad”), “Apartment 23″ is executive-produced by Kahn, Jason Winer (“Modern Family”), Dave Hemingson (“American Dad,” “How I Met Your Mother”) and Jeff Morton (“Modern Family”). Winer is also the director. “Apartment 23″ is a production of 20th Century Fox Television.
