"Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23" (2011) Role: June Genre: Comedy Premieres April 11, 9:30 on ABC
The soul of Raven, the king of all vampires is reborn into the body of a flamboyantly gay college student / aspiring actor named Carmen. Two of Raven’s progeny have been desperately searching for over 200 years to find him, and want to turn him back into a vampire in order to save their dying race. Carmen’s two best friends Tracy and Peter only want to protect him, but are constantly being thwarted by the jealous vampire duo Emily and Campbell. Carmen soon must make a choice, to protect his friends or become the King he was meant to be.
It’s a quirky little comedy to say the least. The jokes were funny, the violence was a tad disturbing and the special effects were decent. It was kind of refreshing that the hero was a flamboyantly gay vampire, instead of the redundantly forlorn, brooding vampires we’re all so used to. The musical number was unexpected, but fitting to the story. The interaction between Carmen and Tracy (Martin Yurkovic and Dreama Walker) was so casual yet animated, and believable as lifelong friends. Peter (Jeff Ward) was not as interesting a character until the end, although by then I wanted to see more of him. At first I didn’t like where the ending was going, but a last minute twist rectified my opinion. I don’t know if I was reading too much into it, but the nasty-natured characters (that weren’t vampires) tended to be overweight; so I don’t know if it was a bias against the plus-sized, or it was just a coincidence.
Vamperifica was surprisingly entertaining. Vampire movies have been on a downward slide and I’m always hesitant with each one I see, but this one was silly and fun.
Fandango has released two exclusive Vamperifica clips on their website with one of them featuring Dreama. If you click on the picture below you will be taken to the website with the clips. Unfortunately the clip won’t embed.
Vamperifica will have it’s Los Angeles premiere at the 11th Annual Screamfest Horror Film Festival. To find out more about the festival make sure to visit the official Facebook page, follow them on Twitter and pay a visit to the official website!
It will take place from October 14 through October 23 at the Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood & Highland Center (6801 Hollywood Blvd).
As soon as the premiere date will be announced I will post it here!
News surrounding Dreama are currently scarce and it will probably stay that way until filming for Apartment 23 begins in a short while. Dreama has wrapped filming for The Kitchen a few days ago and will most likely start filming Gay Dude before she continues with Apt. 23.
For now here is another impression from someone who watched the Apartment 23 pilot.
APARTMENT 23
What Is It? A sitcom about a naïve woman who comes to New York determined to find success with her “life plan,” only to immediately be fired and end up with the roommate from hell (Krysten Ritter), with whom she eventually forges a very wary relationship.
When Is It On? TBD: late-fall or mid-season.
Should You Watch It? Yes. It doesn’t all work, but the two leads (Ritter and Gossip Girl’s Dreama Walker) are terrific, and the premise of a War of the Roses-like roommate situation is definitely something new. Plus, James Van Der Beek is surprisingly funny playing himself as the horrible roommate’s “gay BFF except straight,” a former TV heartthrob who uses Dawson’s flannel shirt to bed women.
Variety reports that Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, Gary Cole and Brian Geraghty have joined the cast of Gay Dude.
The story is centered around two best friends, Michael and Matty. Offerman will play Michael’s supportive father while Mullally and Cole will play Matty’s parents with Geraghty to play his older brother (who still lives at home).
According to IndieWire filming for the low budget film has already started in Vancouver.
A new Vamperifica trailer focused on Dreama has been released about a month ago but I only just now discovered it. Most scenes have been in the two previously released trailers but there are one or two scenes that we haven’t seen before!
October Road” co-stars Bryan Greenberg and Laura Prepon are reteaming for the indie comedy “The Kitchen,” which is currently filming in Los Angeles.
Ishai Setton (“The Big Bad Swim”) is directing from a script by Jim Beggarly (“Free Samples”).
Emily Ting (“Family Inc.) is producing the pic, which takes place entirely inside a kitchen and finds Prepon’s character celebrating her 30th birthday with an ill-fated party.
Supporting cast includes Matt Bush, Dreama Walker, Tate Ellington, Amber Stevens, Pepper Binkley and Catherine Reitman.
Dreama is part of a new film called The Kitchen and she started shooting it this week. The film also stars Laura Prepon, Bryan Greenberg, Tate Ellington and Jillian Clare. It was written by Jim Beggarly and is being directed by Ishai Setton.
You can follow the production at the offical Twitter account @TheKitchenFilm.
They have released a behind the scenes picture of Dreama on set of the movie and I have added it to the gallery.
Hopefully more information and pictures will be released soon!
